Project share! Painted school spirit canvas shoes!

No tutorial on these just a bit of a project share. I bought a pair of canvas shoes at Hobby Lobby. They were $9.99 and I used my 40% off coupon. I used red white and black fabric paint and then went over some parts with glitter.

My sister is on Spirit Team at her Elementary School and they are getting them geared up for Cheer.

Halloween Deco Mesh Door Garland

Here is my second tutorial on the door garland to match my wreath. I think it turned out well for my first try. I will definitely be doing this again for Christmas.

I bought two sets of 9.5 foot work garland from hobby lobby.  Their fall stuff has been on sale the past three weeks at 40% off.

I used the garland and measured around the door frame outside. (excuse the mess in the craft room right now. Working on a ton of projects at the moment since its pretty much holiday season now.)

I used duct tape to tape the two together at the top of my garland.

I used the rest of my deco mesh roll from my wreath and got this far. I had four rolls of this Halloween mesh though. So if you do this you might use one roll but I would have another on hand just in case. Door sizes vary I'm sure.

After I finished that I went around with some tinsel garland that I got at dollar tree.

I then used some flex tubing and used the same technique as in my wreath but instead of tying each section I just added it to each of the twist ties. These hold much better than the pipe cleaners that I used on my wreath.

I took some tinsel spiders and random dollar Halloween items I got a several places and glued or tied them to the garland.

I used some hooks and attached it to the top of my doorway. I still had some little hooks on the sides from Christmas and I clipped the garland onto those to hold it to the door. I then glued some wire to the back of two large glitter pumpkins and wired it on either side.

Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath and how I made it.

I am obsessed! With Deco Mesh! Now that holiday season is here I can finally turn all that obsession into reality. I've gotten pretty good at it too. So here's how I did it!

First off watch this youtube video by Southern Charm Wreaths. This is essentially how I made this wreath in particular. I usually do them a different way and this was my first time trying a curly wreath.

I made my own work wreath form with chenille stems and staggard them with 12 on top and 12 on bottom like this:

I cut my deco mesh to 10 inches and used the technique in the video all the way around the outer stems with my three colors:

I puffed up my loops on the top and then went around the bottom stems TWICE. If you only do it once it looks thin and you can see through to the other side which is not what I was going for:

Next I added flex tubing to my wreath. I found a value pack and Michaels for 50% off that has black, purple, orange, green, and white. I cut the tubing into 10 inch strips and made sure to cut enough to stuff into each of my chenille stems which equaled 24 pieces total for each color. I took a piece of each color and tied them together with a Sally's salon clip the same way I would for a hair bow.

I lined them all up and secured the clip in the middle at 5 inches

I used embroidery thread and loosely made a tie. Don't tie it all the way.  I then slippped the ends back through each side, turned the clip over, and tied on the other side. This time I pulled all the way.

Doing it this way makes it easier so you don't have to deal with it coming undone while trying to double knot. I make sure after I do this to give it a couple good knots to make sure that it stays secure.

After I get all 24 pieces done, I attached them to all of my stems:

This next part is totally up to you. I added my ribbon crosses to every other stem on the top row and then evenly placed five on the inside. I cut all my ribbon to 12 inches and spiked the tailed then added them to my wreath. You could add ribbon to every stem or none at all.

All I did next was add my sign and hang on the door! Make sure to fluff all your poofs and arrange the tubing and ribbon as you see fit. I am working on matching garland to go with it.  Hopefully a tutorial on that will be up soon.

HMHD Designs is now on Blogspot!

After the birth of my daughter last year, I am finally getting back into the swing of things! With that comes this blog. I have decided to focus more on blogging and a little less on selling as of right now. With a now almost one year old and 5 year old, I am busier than ever! I may still post some items for sale from time to time. Most of my posts will be tutorials here and there and project shares as well. I will also be keeping my Facebook up to date along with this blog.
